Master Secondary Social Studies with the subject experts at The Humanities Clinic

Social Studies Tuition for Upper Secondary Students

What is Social Studies & Why is it Important?

Social Studies is a core humanities subject in Singapore’s O-Level curriculum, helping students develop critical thinking skills, source evaluation techniques, and structured argumentation. The subject is designed to equip students with real-world perspectives, encouraging them to analyze governance, globalisation, and societal issues through structured responses and case studies.

However, many students struggle with Social Studies due to the application-based nature of exam questions, particularly in Source-Based Questions (SBQ) and Structured Response Questions (SRQ).

At The Humanities Clinic, we go beyond memorisation. Our teaching methodology focuses on equipping students with structured thought processes and essential skills to tackle any question confidently.

  • Learn from teachers who have developed curriculum, exam papers, and published Humanities study guide books.

  • At The Humanities Clinic, we understand the importance of individualized learning experiences. Unlike many other tuition centres, our class sizes are at a maximum of 8 students to ensure that every student receives the attention they need while benefiting from group dynamics and collaborative learning.

  • We develop comprehensive programmes that impart effective step-by-step examination strategies. Develop and hone your critical thinking skills and independence to tackle Humanities subjects effectively.

  • Always there for you - last minute jitters and doubts? We’re always here to answer your queries regarding exam questions or topics, through 24/7 Whatsapp support.

Why Do Students Struggle with Social Studies?

& How we can help.

The Humanities Clinic A Student Looking Frustrated While Studying

“ I Find It Hard to Memorise Everything from My Textbook! ”

The Humanities Clinic Solution:

Concise, Targeted Cheat Sheets for Effective Revision

  • Many students and parents rave about our notes, which simplify complex content into easy-to-understand summaries.

  • These highly targeted study materials focus on key content needed for exams, reducing the burden of excessive memorization.

The Humanities Clinic A Student Thinking and Memorizing

“Model Essays Help, But how do I use them in Exams?”

The Humanities Clinic Solution:

We teach students how to adapt, not memorize!

  • While we provide high-quality model essays (especially before major exams), we focus on teaching students how to tweak and apply them correctly.

  • Instead of blind memorisation, we train students to:

    • Identify question variations and adjust their responses.

    • Use thought prompts to structure answers for application-based O-Level questions.

“How do I structure my answers clearly in SS SBQ & SRQ?!”

The Humanities Clinic Solution:

Step-by-Step Answering Techniques with Clear Formats

  • Social Studies is becoming more application-based, and students need structured answering techniques to excel.

  • We teach:

    • Clear step-by-step frameworks for Source-Based Questions (SBQs) and Structured Response Questions (SRQs).

    • Exam strategies to maximise marks within limited time.

    • Logical, structured approaches that examiners look for in top-scoring answers.

The Humanities Clinic Students Critical Thinking and Academic Concentration

“I Have No Real-World Examples to Use for Trickier Questions!

The Humanities Clinic Solution:

Mastering Current Affairs Application for Social Studies

  • Many students find it challenging to apply current affairs and real-world case studies in their answers, especially for higher-level application-based O-Level questions.

  • At The Humanities Clinic, we ensure students develop this critical skill through:

    • Frequent short sharings on the latest current affairs—making it easier for students to connect real-world examples with exam questions.

    • Curated, relevant case studies to help students recognise how and when to apply them effectively.

    • In-class discussions to spark curiosity and deepen understanding, ensuring students feel confident using current affairs beyond textbook content.

By integrating real-world context into structured responses, our students gain a competitive edge in tackling trickier, application-heavy O-Level questions.
