Master Secondary History with the subject experts at The Humanities Clinic

O-Level History (Elective/Pure) Tuition for Upper Secondary Students

What is History & Why is it Important?

History is a core humanities subject in Singapore’s O-Level curriculum, designed to help students develop critical thinking, source analysis, and structured argumentation skills. The subject allows students to understand historical events, interpret sources, and evaluate cause-and-effect relationships, shaping their ability to think analytically and form well-reasoned arguments.

However, many students struggle with Secondary History due to its application-based exam questions, particularly in Source-Based Questions (SBQ) and Structured Essay Questions (SEQ). Unlike subjects that rely on rote memorization, History requires students to apply historical knowledge, analyze sources critically, and craft well-structured responses.

At The Humanities Clinic, our structured, exam-focused approach ensures students develop essential historical analysis skills, master answering techniques, and improve their confidence in tackling O-Level History.

  • Learn from teachers who have developed curriculum, exam papers, and published Humanities study guide books.

  • At The Humanities Clinic, we understand the importance of individualized learning experiences. Unlike many other tuition centres, our class sizes are at a maximum of 8 students to ensure that every student receives the attention they need while benefiting from group dynamics and collaborative learning.

  • We develop comprehensive programmes that impart effective step-by-step examination strategies. Develop and hone your critical thinking skills and independence to tackle Humanities subjects effectively.

  • Always there for you - last minute jitters and doubts? We’re always here to answer your queries regarding exam questions or topics, through 24/7 Whatsapp support.

Why Do Students Struggle with History?

& How we can help.

The Humanities Clinic A Student Looking Frustrated While Studying

“I struggle to make accurate inferences in Source-Based Questions!”

The Humanities Clinic Solution:

Master Inference Techniques to Capture the Main Message!

Many students misinterpret sources or focus on minor details, making it hard to extract the main message. At The Humanities Clinic, we teach step-by-step inference techniques to help students hone their skills in analyzing sources.

We teach students to:

  • Analyse non-text sources (e.g., political cartoons, images, posters) effectively.

  • Use structured inference techniques to capture the core message of a source.

  • Integrate contextual knowledge into their inferences for a stronger and more informed response.

The Humanities Clinic A Student Thinking and Memorizing

“I can’t link my knowledge to the sources, and I get confused by political language!”

The Humanities Clinic Solution:

Break Down Political Language and Link Knowledge Effectively!

Political language can be tricky, and many students struggle to link their contextual knowledge to the sources. We guide students through analysing political language and show them how to seamlessly integrate relevant knowledge into their answers.

We help students:

  • Link contextual knowledge effectively to support accurate inferences and stronger responses.

  • Apply key historical concepts to enhance their ability to answer Source-Based Questions confidently.

hard to develop strong explanations in Structured Essay Questions (SEQs)!”

    • Apply the right historical context to answer the question directly.

    • Use structured frameworks to develop clear and well-reasoned arguments.

    • Apply key prompts to ensure their answers remain focused and relevant.
